The central region is the area that concentrates the main part of the population of Florianópolis and is segmented into 12 neighborhoods with different characteristics, including Centro, Agronomica, Trindade, Saco dos Limões, Pantanal, Itacorubi and Córrego Grande.
The Center is the oldest settlement center on the island of Santa Catarina and since then has been the city's historic, political, commercial and cultural landmark. We can say that Florianópolis developed from the Center to other areas, being the main point of the entire urbanization and forming the current Central Region. Due to the fact that it is the capital of the state, the public authorities buildings are located there, such as the City Hall itself, and dozens of public offices, schools, banks, companies, restaurants, bars, stores and shopping malls.
Avenida Beira Mar Norte, the main transit route along the waterfront, is the most famous avenue and one of the most beautiful in Florianópolis, a point of leisure and entertainment for residents and tourists alike.
In addition to the diversity of commerce, the central region holds some of the city's main historical attractions. The first link between the Island and the Continent, the Hercílio Luz Bridge is the most famous postcard. Other important points are the Cruz e Sousa Palace, the Victor Meirelles Museum, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Public Market and the famous Praça XV.
In the other neighborhoods, important points of reference are also located, such as the Federal University of Santa Catarina in the Trindade, the Santa Catarina State University and the Florianópolis Botanical Garden in the Itacorubi, the Villa Romana Shopping Center in the Santa Mônica área, the Floripa Shopping in the Saco Grande and the Córrego Grande Ecological Park in the Córrego Grande neighborhood.
For those who like a more urban environment, the Centro neighborhood and its surroundings are the ideal place to settle in Florianópolis. For those looking for more peace, with only 10 minutes from the city center, the other neighborhoods in the Central region offer many options. We highlight the João Paulo neighborhood, which has many residential condominiums with fantastic luxury and high-end properties, some with an incredible view of the North Bay.
